I have started a petition to gather signatures from Stoke-on-Trent Central and across North Staffordshire to show the government the public want the Stoke-Leek line, with proposed stations at Milton, Birches Head & Bucknall, re-opened.
The Government recently recognised that there is good a case to look at reopening the Stoke-Leek line, and it is important that we know how local people feel about the chance of securing significant local rail investment.
I hope to present the petition to the Speaker of the House of Commons on behalf of all who sign it.
The Petition of the residents of the constituency of Stoke-on-Trent Central,
Declares that improving rail infrastructure and providing better rail services in our city and wider North Staffordshire is vital for the growth of our local economy; further that it would create jobs and unlock the potential of unused brownfield sites in our area; and further that it would greatly benefit commuters and passengers.
The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to take such action as is necessary to reopen the railway between Stoke and Leek.
And the petitioners remain, etc.
