Re-engineering our flood defences
Stoke-on-Trent has a fantastic asset in the River Trent, but it is far too hidden away by concrete channels and culverts, sometimes fenced off and overgrown.
The more of the concrete engineering we can remove, the less of a problem there will be.
It is a step in the right direction that the watercourses of Stoke-on-Trent are gradually being reengineered, making our beautiful waterways a visible asset to the city and increasing its appeal.
Recently at a Westminster Hall debate called by Theo Clarke I raised the issue of flooding in Stoke-on-Trent. You can watch my contribution here.
Constituents have contacted me about the damage flooding has done to their properties, where it has ineffectively drained away.
Water companies must stop shifting the blame, accept responsibility and take action.
