£6.5m scheme to protect 350 Stoke homes and businesses from flooding set to start!
I am delighted that the Government, through the Environment Agency, is set to help us deliver the local improvements we need to the Fowlea Brook.
We need to get this right for local residents, and I applaud the Environment Agency for being proactive in writing to people and businesses locally to seek their views on finalising the plans.
I have made clear since my maiden speech to Parliament that I will work with anyone who seeks to improve the amenity of our city’s under-appreciated waterways. Stoke Town was built where it is because of the confluence of the Fowlea and the Trent – and the more that is done to reveal and rewild them the better, frankly.
We are showing that it is possible to put in flood defences that not only make Stoke Town safer, but an even more attractive place to live, visit, work and invest.
