As a Member of Parliament, I am acutely aware of my duty to my constituents and the wider public. I share the sentiments of those who followed the rules while others did not. Parliament must hold itself to the highest standards. There must be honesty, accountability, and no immunity for wrongdoing – even for a Prime Minister. As such, I will be voting in favour of the Privileges Committee's motion, should there be a vote.
The Privileges Committee, tasked with defending the rights of our constituents not to be misled or abused, has carried out their duty with commendable diligence and dignity. It falls on us to uphold public standards and restore faith in our democracy. The integrity of our institutions and the trust of our constituents hang in the balance, and we owe it to them to ensure they are maintained.
