Since I became aware of the problem two years ago, in March investigation works took place with specialist engineers drilling into the road to try and identify the problem. I now believe the City Council has a copy of those results and I will be speaking to the council to find out what the report has found and what will happen next to fix the problem and get the road reopened for residents.
The City Council closed the road more than two years ago under their statutory duty of public safety. However, the misery for residents who have been denied vehicular access to their properties is ongoing because no party has been willing to progress a solution for fear of the cost of accepting liability to a problem that may well extend far beyond the visible damage at present.
I have spoken to the Roads Minister, the Housing Minister, the Environment Secretary, raised the matter numerous times in Parliament and I have spoken to Severn Trent and the developers as well as the City Council to try and find a way of resolving the situation.
I fully understand the fustratration this situation is causing for residents and I will continue to fight for action at government level and locally until we have a solution to this serious public safety issue and the road reopened for local residents.
