I’m delighted Stoke-on-Trent City Council are the first council in the UK to sign the Button Battery Pledge and pass a motion to commit to be Button Battery Aware, and to work with The Harper-Lee Foundation to raise awareness of the dangers of button batteries following the tragic death of toddler Harper-Lee Fanthorpe.

Already there has been a discussion with the Trading Standards Officer about practical measures that might enable residents to report unsafe products. This motion in Council is the beginning of a campaign to make Stoke-on-Trent a safer place for children.
